SolarOne's lighting systems are self-contained lighting devices for exterior decor, pathways and traffic that derive their power from the sun using solar energy. The products are different from most others because, instead of batteries they utilises the latest technology in high efficiency storages called "ultracapacitors".
Most other solar devices use environment damaging rechargeable batteries that usually require bi-annual replacement. This is particularly so if the frequency of charging is high, such as with photovoltaic working on a 24 hour daily cycle.
Ultracapacitors on the other hand have virtually no practical limits on the number of times they can be recharged and are not degraded by the most extreme weather conditions. Ultracapacitors enables the SolarOne's lighting devices to be used in any environment without maintenance for more than 10 years and in a wide operating temperature range of -40 degrees to 167 degrees. With the photovoltaic charging cycle, in the day time solar energy is converted into electricity through solar cells and stored in ultracapacitor. As light levels fall at night time, they automatically produce visually pleasing, low level of intensity, diffuse light deployed without causing green-house emmission pollution.
Full charge takes about 4 hours under direct sunlight and approximately 6 hours under shade or overcast conditons.
Light is emmitted for more than 12 hours with fully a charged ultracapacitor making them ideal for remote or quick install cable and maintenance free usage.
