Details and Aim of Trial

To establish the most suitable selection of lights and layout for a diverse user pathway complex

Light selection rationale

  • Lights chosen to conform as closely as possible with existing roadway lighting standards (Vic Roads)
  • Placement chosen to best delineate and identify paths and crossings for both pedestrian and cyclists (with respect to pathways characteristics and spacing between)

Layout plan

  • Delineation lights (Red/White bidirectional LED Steady) on path sides spaced according to visibility
  • Amber steady monodirectional LED chosen to indicate crossings and/or merging paths and roads

  • Section of the Bayside Path running between North Road and Glynburn Ave Brighton

Trial environment description

  • Minimal street lighting due to ecological issues (sensitive foreshore micro-ecology)
  • High level of pedestrain usage
  • High level of car usage
  • Playground precinct
  • High level of recreational cyclist usage
  • Many crossings
  • Butted main roads
  • Boat ramp and associated infrastructure
  • Car park
  • Restaurant traffic
